Workshop in Ispica, presentation of Irvos activities
It will be a central and reference hub for all of eastern Sicily. It is the IRVOS laboratory of Ispica whose activities and skills will be announced on Friday afternoon, November 29th, at the Ispica headquarters. The extraordinary commissioner of the body, Giorgio Calabrese, will be the one to give an account of this.
“An all-round laboratory – comments the commissioner – in which it will be possible to carry out analyzes in the oenological, olive oil but also agri-food fields”. And precisely to inaugurate this new "look" of the Institute, a workshop will take place on Friday on the Ispica PGI new carrot, its nutritional and therapeutic properties. “Thanks to the work of the regional councilor for Agricultural and Food Resources Dario Cartabellotta – underlines Giorgio Calabrese – IRVOS will soon open up to the agri-food and fishing sector, becoming a valid point of reference for the entire world of food production”. The workshop is part of a broader project carried out by the Ispica PGI new carrot consortium to enhance a niche product of the Italian agri-food sector and to protect, at the same time, the health and needs of the consumer. The meeting will be moderated by the extraordinary commissioner of the Regional Institute of Wines and Oils of Sicily, Giorgio Calabrese. Consolidate the image of this product on a scientific basis among the objectives. The works will be opened by Carmelo Calabrese, president of the Consorzio di Tutela IGP Carota Novella di Ispica, and will also see the participation of Dario Cartabellotta and the Honorable Bruno Marziano of the third Ars Productive Activities Commission. “This workshop – explains Carmelo Calabrese – is part of that plan of promotional and communication actions which have the aim of differentiating the Carota Novella di Ispica PGI in the eyes of public opinion and making it recognizable in its characterizing elements such as seasonality, naturalness, freshness and its organoleptic and nutritional integrity". In fact, at the basis of the unique characteristics of the Carota Novella di Ispica PGI, there is a combination of pedoclimatic and production factors in the area delimited by the production specification which allows the territory to express itself at its best, allowing the product to have a series of characteristics that make it unique. A product that meets the requirements to be part of the "Born in Sicily" basket, the law recently approved at the Sicilian Regional Assembly thanks to the decisive contribution of councilor Cartabellotta which aims to protect the origin and peculiarities of Sicilian agri-food resources .
