Vinitaly 2013, the Sicilian Wine program

Tastings, workshops, meetings, art exhibitions, documentaries and book presentations of a Sicily of wine that wants to tell its story and be told. This is the calendar of initiatives promoted by the Sicilian Wines and Oils Institute which this year too will animate the Sicily Pavilion at Vinitaly and beyond.

 

 

SUNDAY 7 APRIL

 

Sunday 7 April, opening day of the Fair, at 12.00, at Vivaldi Room is expected Institutional Press Conference of the Sicilian Region. The president of the Sicily Region will open the conference Rosario Crocetta. Speakers will include, among others: the Councilor for Agriculture Dario Cartabellotta And Giorgio Calabrese, the well-known nutritionist newly elected Commissioner of the Sicilian Wines and Oils Institute. Conference theme “Born in Sicily, the Sicilian Excellences”.

 

Following, from 1.45pm, the first event organized in the Business Area of Pavilion n. 2 Sicily. In the presence of director Lidia Rizzo, the documentary film “Zucco, the Wine of the Son of the King of the French”. To conclude, a guided tasting of Moscato Zucco wines. Sweet wines of great value resulting from the rediscovery of one of the oldest native vines in Sicily.

 

From 3.15pm, Andrea Zanfi returns to visit the Sicily Pavilion of Vinitaly for the presentation, this time, not of a book related to Sicilian wine, but to oil. Zanfi, a great connoisseur and enthusiast of the island territory, titled his new book "Sicily the Island of the Olive”. The protection trademark project will be presented PGI Sicilian Oil in the presence of Giorgio Calabrese, the director of the Infrastructure Interventions department of the Department of Agriculture Rosaria Barresi, Lucio Monte and Piergiorgio Sabatini. To conclude, a guided tasting of monovarietal oils.

 

From 4.30 pm the presentation of a book that is linked to the desire for redemption from mafia power, entitled "Hopes born free. Assets confiscated from the mafia symbol of legality” by Ina Modica. Followed by a guided tasting of native wines from the Centopassi Cooperative.

 

At the end of the day's work in the Business area, at 5.45 pm, the presentation of the book "Identity and richness of the Sicilian vineyard” by the Regional Department of Agricultural and Food Resources. Speakers will be Professor Attilio Scienza who contributed to research on historical varietals together with the Ernesto Del Giudice Wine Supply Chain Innovation Center of Marsala of the Infrastructure Interventions Department directed by Vito Falco. The oenologist Giacomo Ansaldi and Alberto Parrinello will also take part in the presentation. A guided tasting of historic Sicilian wines will close the meeting.

 

 

MONDAY 8 APRIL

 

Monday 8 April, the second day of the Fair, will open the day of meetings at 10.30, again in the Business Area of Pavilion no. 2 Sicily the presentation of the book “The World of Sicilian Wine” by Bill Nesto and Fran Savino. The theme of the meeting will be Sicilian wine of excellence in the world. Diego Planeta, producer Gaetana Iacono and Subhash Arora will take part in the presentation.

 

At 11.45, appointment with the presentation of Sicilia En Primeur 2013, the tenth edition of the event edited by Assovini Sicilia. Taking part in the meeting are Antonio Rallo, president of Assovini Sicilia, Rosaria Barresi and Marino Breganze.

 

From 12.45pm event entitled "Syrah, an excellent grape variety in the Monreale DOC territory”. An event that focuses on an important international grape variety that has found one of the most renowned production enclaves in Italy in the Monrealese district. A guided tasting of Syrah wines by the members of the Monreale DOC Wine Consortium is scheduled.

 

From 2.15pm to 2.45pm a space dedicated to the theme of workplace safety in wineries. The quality of a product also depends on the protection of workers. We will talk about it with Natalia Trapani, researcher at the Department of Industrial Engineering at the University of Catania.

 

From 3.00 pm to 4.00 pm, in the Press Room of the Sicily Pavilion, the presentation of the project "ArtevinoZiganoi, the Art Ambassador of Wine” with Ignazio Cammalleri. The project, conceived and curated by the artist Ziganoi, will be presented at Vinitaly as the first step of a journey which aims to consecrate the close relationship between art and wine. As a preview, the artist will exhibit twelve works that are part of the exhibition which will be hosted in Palermo at Palazzo dei Normanni, home of the Sicilian Regional Assembly. The idea was born from the collaboration with the Istituto Vini e Oli di Sicilia and will also involve the cellars of the island with installations and scenography that will spiritually link wine and art:

From 3.00pm to 3.45pm the eagerly awaited presentation of the book “A Natural Woman” by Arianna Occhipinti. At the end, guided tasting of the producer's "natural" wines. Together with Arianna Occhipinti, the musician Roy Paci and Gianpaolo Gravina will take part in the presentation.

 

From 4.00 pm to 4.45 pm we will talk about the organic wines of Sicily with the presentation and tasting of wines protagonists of the III Regional Exhibition of Sicilian Organic Wines and the Biodivino Wine Competition 2013. The tasting led by Gianni Giardina is organized by the VI.BIO.SI Association. Giorgio Calabrese, Ignazio Garau, Cristina Micheloni will be present.

 

Also from 4.00pm to 5.00pm in the Press Room, a meeting with the theme "From local culture to food and wine tourism”. Debate with IRvos, the Sicilian Wine and Flavor Roads Federation, Mise, Regional Department of Tourism, Cultural Heritage, Confindustria and Iter Vitis.

 

And again at 5.00 pm, again in the Business area, we will discuss the Perspectives of heroic viticulture. This will be followed by a guided tasting of the winning wines of the 20th international mountain wine competition. Giacomo Rallo, Baldo Giarraputo, Roberto Gaudio will be present and Gianni Giardina will host.

 

At 6.00 pm, in the business area, the presentation of the Typical Sicilian Sweet District. Guided tasting of passito wines and typical Sicilian desserts. All organized by the Ducezio Association (Farina, Fiasconaro, Condorelli, DI Stefano, Zappalà, Cappello, Settepani, Bonaiuto).

 

 

TUESDAY 9 APRIL

 

Wednesday 9 April, at 10.00 in the Press Room, the presentation of the guide of the Sicilian Wine Tourism Movement "Sips of Sicily, a Tour of emotions”. Salvatore La Lumia and Anna Salamone will present.

 

At 11.30 again in the Press Room the presentation of "SOStain”, a program of sustainability for the valorization of Sicilian viticulture and its territory. Alessio Planeta, Patricia Toth, Alberto Tasca, Giuseppe Tasca and Lucrezia Lamastra will take part in the meeting.

 

Following, at 12, tasting of the traditional Sicilian pastry organized by the Ducezio Association.

 

From 3pm to 5pm in the Sala Argento, horizontal tasting of Etna wines 2010 vintage edited by the Sicilian online newspaper Cronache di Gusto, hosted by Fabrizio Carrera together with the producers.

 

At 4.30 pm in the Mantegna Room (SOL Pavilion) a meeting onExtra virgin olive oil from Sicily: biodiversity of excellence from the center of the Mediterranean. With Dino Catagnano.

 

At 4.30pm in the Press Room: Frappato di Vittoria, tradition, evolution and territory. Edited by Francesco Ferreri, president of the Cerasuolo di Vittoria DOCG Protection Consortium.

 

Also on Tuesday 9 April, in three sessions, from 10.00 to 13.00, from 14.30 to 16.00 and from 16.30 to 17.30, the B2B meetings of Taste & Buy, in which producers meet international buyers, organized by the Regional Institute of Wines and Oils of Sicily.

 

 

WEDNESDAY 10 APRIL

 

Also on Wednesday 10 April, the last day of the Fair, in three sessions, at the usual times, a day dedicated to the meeting between buyers and producers with the activities Taste & Buy.

 

From 10.30 to 11.30 in Pavilion 10, SOL Area Sicilia, Cooking Show, The great raw extra virgin olive oils of Sicily with Chef Peppe Giuffrè.

 

From 12.00 to 13.30 in the Press Room Modern Sicilian pastry shop with the Ducezio Association.

 

From 12.30 to 13.30 in Pavilion 10, SOL Area Sicilia, Cooking Show, The great Sicilian Extra Virgin Olive Oils in the mortar with Chef Peppe Giuffrè.
