Sicilia Gusto Mediterraneo, the presentation in Cologne

sicilia_gusto_mediterraneo

Twenty-one wines, from Grillo to Nero d'Avola up to the historic Marsala, for a first taste of the wines of Sicily and its territories. A "taste" that was done last week in Cologne, Germany. It is here that "Sicilia Gusto Mediterraneo" will begin in October, the IRVOS project conceived and organized by PRC Re Pubbliche aimed at valorising and marketing the products of Sicilian companies on the German market.

In addition to wine, in fact, you will taste extra virgin olive oil, another strong point of the island, and fish products.

“The wines of Sicily have appeal. – comments Dario Cartabellotta, general manager of the Department of Infrastructure Interventions for Agriculture of the regional department of Agricultural and Food Resources – It doesn't matter whether they are red, white, from native or international vines. What matters is that they are Sicilian. A success that must be recognized to the great dynasties of the Island but also to small and medium-sized emerging companies, family-run or small and medium-sized local wineries driven, in unison, to experiment with all the potential that the Island's vineyard offers for microclimates, soils and planted varieties".

And this is precisely what has decreed the success in Germany in this first presentation phase. A tasting, which was held on June 26th at the famous and renowned Vintage wine shop in Cologne, led by Steffen Maus, German journalist and media partner of the project, among twenty-one Sicilian wines belonging to the wineries that will take part in the project. There was great participation from buyers and journalists. Thirty-five percent were retailers and wine shops, thirty percent importers, twenty percent wholesalers, ten percent restaurateurs and only five percent journalists. A minority, the latter, desired given the purely commercial objective to which the project is aimed. Seventy-five participants in total (sixty-five were expected). Quality Nero d'Avola and native vines, such as Zibibbo, Grillo and Nerello Mascalese, the varieties that have been most successful among German palates. As well as a certain interest in Marsala too. The oil offered during the buffet was also much appreciated. In short, a simple presentation, that of Cologne, which however seems to lay the foundations for future stages (Frankfurt, Munich, Hamburg and Berlin) under an aura of positivity in Germany. In fact, the first commercial contacts with some companies have already taken place.
