Over two years of research, Inoveno comes to an end
Two and a half years of studies and research. Six wineries involved. New protocols and technological innovations. This is in summary the Inoveno project, which began in the 2011 harvest and came to an end in the first months of 2014, which benefited from funding from the European Community under measure 124 of the Sicily RDP "2007/2013.
Funds all spent and which led to three important results through the application of new oenological protocols. That is, the company's production of white and red wines with new yeast strains, the production of rosé wines and finally that of sparkling wines with innovative protocols. Results that were made known during the final conference held at Palazzo Steri, in Palermo, and moderated by the director of the national sector magazine "Civiltà del bere" Alessandro Torcoli.
“Thanks to the research work carried out by the Institute – states the general director of IRVOS, Lucio Monte – Sicilian companies will have the possibility of producing high quality wines and improving the competitiveness of their wine production through an increase in “typicality” in a market increasingly interested in products that characterize the different "territories" of our Sicily". The work was conducted by IRVOS technicians through the application of new oenological protocols at six Sicilian wineries (Alto Belice, Colomba Bianca, Europa, Patria, Primavera and Tenuta Gatti). “These two years of work – comments Daniele Oliva, head of the technical-scientific area of the Istituto Vini e Oli di Sicilia – have represented a strong example of technological transfer and we trust that the good results achieved can extend to other Sicilian wineries, in addition to those directly partner of the project. The fact that one of the wines produced within Inoveno, the Catarratto 2012 from Cantina Patria, was selected as the best Catarratto last June by the international jury at the Vini di Radici autochthonous wine show, confirms the high quality of the wines and the goodness of the innovation introduced into companies". Fundamental to the success of the project was the participation of public and private partners who, with their high professional specializations, carried out more limited but very important activities: the Experimental Zooprophylactic Institute of Sicily, the Research Consortium on Biological Risk in Agriculture , the Center for Economic and Social Research for the South, Assovini Sicilia, HTS Enologia, the Barbera Enochemical Center and UBIQ srl.
