New projects that focus on social issues
Born from the collaboration with IRVO "Gocce di Aurora", a Catarratto fruit of the grapes harvested in land confiscated from the mafia. The project, which aims to promote and enhance social agriculture, was conceived and carried out by the Aurora Onlus Association in collaboration with the Regional Wine and Oil Institute.
Last year the children of the association, together with the operators and parents, harvested more than 500 kilos of grapes in the land confiscated from the mafia in the Galeazzo district, in Partinico. Over the weekend there were two opportunities to taste the wine produced. The first in Partinico, Friday 12 September, as part of the "Exhibition for Legality" and the other in Poggio San Francesco during the "AlimentiAmo la Vita a Monreale" event. “By following the guidelines indicated by the regional councilor for Agriculture – states the body's extraordinary commissioner, Nino Di Giacomo – we are trying to promote and carry forward initiatives like this”. A collaboration between the public and associations, therefore, for the promotion and enhancement of the territory. But not only that, because the focus is obviously also on social involvement. “Similar projects are, in fact, – continues Di Giacomo – being examined by the Institute in the logic of valorising and optimizing resources”.
The Regional Councilor for Agriculture, Ezechia Reale, expresses "appreciation and sharing for the social activity carried out by IRVO which, in strengthening the institutional activity of the institution, places itself in a line of continuity and coherence with the policies pursued by the department which are aimed at giving ever greater importance and significance to social agriculture and the productive recovery of uncultivated land".
