The Harvest of legality in Verbumcaudo
The “Harvest of legality”: 29 September morning, in Polizzi Generosa in the Verbumcaudo Fund. This is land confiscated from the mafia, taken over by the regional real estate estate and granted for use to the “Sviluppo e Legalità” Consortium for recovery and valorisation.
Here the IRVO, which in November 2011 signed a memorandum of understanding with the Regional Budget Department, created the "Sicilian viticultural germplasm bank": an experimental counter-espalier vineyard that hosts almost thirty native varieties.
The objective is to deepen scientific knowledge on less widespread varieties while ensuring the conservation of the biodiversity of the regional ampelographic heritage, an inexhaustible source also for the dissemination of new know-how for companies in the sector.
The vineyard was inaugurated in March 2014 and named after Placido Rizzotto and for its management the IRVO avails itself of the collaboration of the "Lavoro e non solo" cooperative.
Thus, following the harvest, the first experimental microvinification tests will begin at the institution's experimental cellar in Marsala.
The regional councilor for Agriculture Antonello Cracolici will also be present at tomorrow's initiative.
Below are the native and minor varieties planted: Racinedda, Lucignola, Catanese nera, Prunesta, Bracau, Anonima, Preventivo, Barbera, Inzolia nera, Dolcetta, Vitrarolo, Orisi, Recuno, Visparola, Moscato, Zu' Matteo, Dunnuni, Albanello , Maiulina, Catanisi Bianca, Cutrera, Alzano, Precoce, Orange Blossom, Rucignola, Oriddu, Reliquia Bianca, Nave.
