Inoveno, research dialogues with students
An intense day in the name of scientific research. It took place yesterday, Tuesday 12 March, in the Aula Magna of the Degree course in Viticulture and Oenology in Marsala. A day dedicated to the exhibition and debate of the latest results relating to two ongoing projects INOVENO and PROMED. Two projects, conducted by the IRVOS scientific laboratory, made possible thanks to the funding provided under measure 124 of the "Sicily Rural Development Program 2007-2013".
The various researchers involved in scientific research thus spoke during the event. The enthusiasm and participation shown by the students of the Faculty of Oenology were great.
The day was divided into three phases, from the analysis of topics relating to viticultural research, to microbiological and finally oenological research.
PROMED is the project that proposes the cultivation of vines and the valorisation of its derivatives as a remunerated system to protect territories from erosion. The work carried out has met with enormous success among the commissioners of the European Community: a positive element in view of possible future funding to continue the research activity carried out admirably. Subsequently, the results achieved by the INOVENO project were exhibited, the result of ten years of study conducted in the research of new oenological technologies for wine production to be transferred to Sicilian companies.
As part of scientific research, the organization has created a selection of Saccharomyces Cerevisiae yeasts for oenological use. Previous research has shown that the use of these yeast strains guarantees the production of secondary aromas, qualitatively different, compared to those produced by yeasts selected in other geographical areas and on the market today. The experimentation and dissemination activity concerns white, rosé, red and sparkling wines.
