The “Analysis and Services for Certification in Agriculture” (ASCA) laboratory becomes the “IRVOS Laboratory of Ispica”. The agreement, which will last thirty years, was signed by the directors Rosaria Barresi of the Regional Department of Agricultural and Food Resources, and by Lucio Monte of IRVOS.

In this way "even the producers of eastern Sicily - as underlined by the commissioner of the Institute, Giorgio Calabrese - will enjoy the possibility of having analyzes and certifications of an international nature". In fact, oil and wine analyzes will begin immediately, "as well as those on pesticides - as Monte explains - just as Winescan will also be put back online".

“With the assignment to the Regional Institute of Wines and Oils of Sicily of the tasks and functions currently carried out by the ASCA laboratory – states the Councilor for Agricultural and Food Resources, Dario Cartabellotta – an experience closes and at the same time opens a new page with which, thanks to research, technological innovation and professional training of operators in the Sicilian agri-food world, it will be possible to generate an improvement in the company's production of our land. From the next few days, winemakers and oenologists – continues Cartabellotta – will be able to bring their products to the IRVOS laboratory to carry out analyzes with the wine scanner and from the next few weeks the analyzes for the fruit and vegetable sector will also be available”. The now former ASCA laboratory was in fact created ten years ago, on the proposal of today's councilor Cartabellotta. The aim was the valorisation of Sicilian agri-food products. “The acquisition of this laboratory, the only one accredited by the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) – concludes Calabrese – will allow both the Department and the Institute to make a leap in quality, no longer at a national but international level. This laboratory will resume its path, interrupted for technical reasons, reflecting the intelligent work of councilor Cartabellotta in expanding Sicily's international operations in the agri-food field".calabrese
