The IRVOS Ispica laboratory opens to producers. A meeting was held on Thursday, December 12th, on the topic of the rules governing the labeling and bottling of wines. But also on the most frequent anomalies and on the sanctions envisaged regarding labelling.

A meeting strongly supported by the producers of the area who participated in large numbers. The IRVOS oenologist Luciano Parrinello and the ICQRF manager of Catania Ernesto Puglisi provided the clarifications through their exhaustive reports and an interesting debate. Also present were the head of the Operational Unit of the Noto institute Corrado Gurrieri and the director Lucio Monte. “I am pleased to see this participation and this interest – commented the general director – on the part of the producers. Helping to "create quality" is our leitmotif and these companies already do it. The Ispica laboratory – he added – will become a point of reference for the Sicilian world of wine and oil, above all through the offer of services necessary for companies. But not only. The Ispica laboratory will also be open to analyzes of water and pesticides".

The meeting therefore also wanted to be preparatory to an activity that will be increasingly intense and which will involve IRVOS and manufacturing companies on the front line. During the meeting, the producers had the opportunity to clarify their doubts regarding the topic addressed. A delicate topic and sometimes open to misunderstandings. “The Institute is attentive to the needs of producers, especially small ones – explains Monte – and our intent is to be increasingly so”. Meanwhile, between March and April of the new year, the IRVOS laboratory in Ispica will be accredited by Accredia. It will therefore constitute another point of the Regional Institute of Wines and Oils of Sicily for DO certification. “The equipment for this type of analysis has already been reactivated. – underlines Monte – And at the same time we are working to be ready when the specifications for extra virgin olive oil become reality”.
