Oil Panel Leader Course 26/30 April 2022
As part of its institutional activities in the olive oil sector, the Regional Institute of Wine and Oil requested and obtained authorization from Mi.PAAF to carry out a training course for Panel Leaders.
The course will take place from 26th to 30th April at the Chamber of Commerce of Catania, the lessons will be held by technical experts in the teaching subjects and by managers of Mi.PAAF and ICQRF to an audience of 16 students from Sicily, Puglia Liguria, Emilia Romagna and Friuli Venezia Giulia, registered in the national list of oil tasters and part of a Tasting Committee recognized for at least three years.
The organoleptic analyzes for determining the commercial category of the oils and, in the context of the certification of oils with Denomination of Origin, for the suitability of the product to the relevant production specifications, are carried out by a Tasting Committee recognized by the Ministry led by a Panel Leader.
In consideration of the growth in PGI Sicily certified production volumes, it will be essential to form Tasting Committees in addition to those currently operating within the PGI Sicily certification (IRVO Palermo Panel, and Agriculture Department Panel c/o MAAS Catania).
The training of qualified personnel in oil tasting will also help improve the quality of production and support research and experimentation in the sector, as well as disseminating oil culture to consumers.
The direction of the course is entrusted to Dr. Giuseppe Cicero (Head of the Ragusa Chamber of Commerce Panel) and the IRVO will avail itself of the collaboration of the Consortia for the Protection of Etna DOP and the Monti Iblei DOP for assistance
