The IRVOS recipe to describe Sicilian excellence: oil, wine and territory

From March 2024 a new direction to make Sicily known outside the island
Three appointments, three occasions chosen by IRVOS, the Regional Institute of Wines and Oils of Sicily to bring Sicilian excellence to national and international stages: Capital Oil Expo in Trieste from 8 to 10 March, ProWein in Dusseldorf, Germany, March 10-12 and March 13-14 Fine Wine Tourism Marketplace in Valladolid in Spain.

Events that represent only three of the stages of a broader journey imagined to make the most of the Sicilian tourist and food and wine offer.

In recent years it has become increasingly clear that oil and wine, in addition to being two products of identity, are narrators of the deep roots of Sicilian culture, witnesses of important changes also in the narrative of the territory.

Today, oil and wine are ambassadors of the richness and varied tourist offer of the island and contribute to increasing its reputation as a destination of excellence.

Capital Oil Expo – Trieste

The Sicilian companies that participated in the Trieste competition, Olio Capitale, came from all over the island. An important showcase in which Sicily had the opportunity to stand out among the over 220 producers of extra virgin olive oil coming from the entire Italian territory as well as from Greece and Slovenia.

ProWein – Dusseldorf

In the busy agenda of IRVO Sicilia there was also the appointment in Dusseldorf with Prowein from 10 to 12 March, the event that has been anticipating market trends regarding wines and spirits from all over the world for more than 30 years. For the occasion, twenty-four Sicilian wineries flew to Germany: Alessandro di Camporeale, Baglio di Cristo di Campobello, Cantine Colomba Bianca, Cantine birgi, Azienda Agricola G.Milazzo Terre della Baronia, Funaro Azienda Vinicola, Brugnano, Feudo Montoni, Feudo Solaria, Navarra estates, Cantina Chitarra, Baglio di Pianetto, Benanti, Don Tomasi, Judeka Winery, Azienda Vitivinicola Tola, Cantine Fina, Agricola Ottoventi, Al-Cantàra, Caruso and Minimi, Cantine Nicosia, Baglio oro, VItivinicola Candido and Firriato.

Fine WineTourism Marketplace – Valladolid

Last in order of time, the participation of the Wine and Flavors Route of Etna, the Val di Mazara Wine and Flavors Route, the Val di Noto Wine and Flavors Route, the Marsala Wine Route - Lands of the West , Route of Wine, Oil and Flavors of the Valley of the Temples, Terre Sicane Wine Routes at the Fine WineTourism Marketplace in Valladolid from 13 to 14 March 2024.

A moment awaited by wine lovers and travelers that created a link between the world of wine and the exploration of the natural cultural heritage of the area.

Gaetano Aprile, director of IRVO Sicilia, commented on the choice to embrace presence at these events: «We are convinced that the story of the Sicilian territory will be increasingly connected to that of two identifying products: oil and wine. Participation in these three events is only the beginning of a journey that will bring Sicily to the center of a new, increasingly holistic tourist vision. We are already preparing for the Vinitaly event, another precious opportunity to raise awareness of Made in Sicily."
