“Enological Sicily, wines and territories”: IRVO’s masterclass in Krakow for HORECA/GASTROFOOD and ENOEXPO

“Enological Sicily, wines and territories” is the title of the masterclass that the Regional Institute of Wine and Oil held in Krakow within the trade fair events HORECA/GASTROFOOD and ENOEXPO. Events that each year register over 10 thousand visitors and in which companies from 20 countries participate. Great participation and great success for the technical tasting, led by the IRVO oenologist Gianni Giardina, who highlighted the organoleptic qualities of Sicilian wines. Journalists, importers, restaurateurs and professionals from the business world took part in the masterclass. “These are important occasions,” commented the IRVO commissioner, Giusi Mistretta. “The Institute has promoted, for the second year, the participation of companies in the olive oil sector, and, for the first time, of the wine sector at the trade fair event, given the strong push of operators towards Mediterranean products, especially extra virgin olive oil, not only for food purposes. It was an opportunity for growth especially for medium-small Sicilian companies, which joined the project, seizing an opportunity for the internationalization of Sicilian products.”

A three-day event, from November 6 to 8, involving five wineries and four oil companies, both with DOP and IGP production. Specifically, for the wine sector: CVA Canicattì, Candiolo vini, Azienda agricola Foraci, Feudi di Regalpetra and Tenute Marchesi di Rampingallo. For the oil sector: Società agricola Radici, Rosario Tramontana olio, Francesco Lo Grasso olio and Frantoio Galioto. IRVO supported up to 80% of the expenses of the participating companies.

Not only masterclasses, during the Polish fairs several oil tastings were held under the guidance of Michele Riccobono of the IRVO Oil Control and Certification Organization. A three-day event rewarding in many ways and which ended with the invitation to visit Sicily on the occasion of the recognition of Agrigento as the Italian Capital of Culture 2025.
