Scopello, Harvest fest

A weekend to discover the wine universe in one of the magical places of Sicily. It's time for "Harvest fest - Harvest in the square", in Scopello. Three days (13, 14 and 15 September of events, harvest and pressing).

The event is organized by IRVOS in collaboration with the Scopello Cultural Tourist Initiatives Association, the Municipality of Castellammare del Golfo, the Zingaro Reserve and ESA-Sopat 84-Alcamo.

The first appointment is for Friday 13 September at 4.30pm in Torre Bennistra with a tasting of white wines led by Gianni Giardina of IRVOS. At 7pm in Piazza Scopello, a less formal tasting of wines and typical Sicilian products. In the meantime, at the Tenute Plaia farmhouse there will be a cooking class (from 7pm to 8.30pm) and a dinner with dishes from the harvest, organized by Cinzia Plaia and Nicola Trapani. On Friday the first day of Harvest fest will end at 9.30pm in Piazza Scopello with popular songs and dances accompanied by the Trapani Mia group.

On Saturday 14th at 10am, there will be the key institutional event of the event. The conference "Wine, oil, landscape, tourism" will be held at the Baglio Resort. After the greetings of the mayors of Castellammare and Alcamo, speeches are expected from Dario Cartabellotta, Regional Councilor for Agriculture, Michela Stancheris, Regional Councilor for Tourism, Giorgio Calabrese, IRVOS commissioner, Lucio Monte, director of the Institute and Francesco Calanna, commissioner Esa. The debate will be moderated by journalist Fabrizio Carrera.

In the afternoon from 5.30pm to 6.30pm at the Tavernetta, oil tasting workshop with Leonardo Catagnano. At 7pm tasting of wines and local products in Piazza Scopello. From 7pm to 9.30pm at the Tonnara “I grandi di Sicilia”, exhibition of classic method Sicilian sparkling wines, with tasting and musical entertainment by Francesco Buzzurro and Francesco Giunta. This event is by invitation only. At 9.30pm in Piazza Scopello, cabaret with Toni Carbone and dance performance by the Tangorico Mania group.

Finally, on Sunday at 9 am in Piazza Scopello, a meeting of the volunteer group "Collect grapes" for tourists and non-tourists alike. Always there at 10 am the meeting to go and harvest the grapes in a local vineyard. The grapes will then be brought back to Piazza Scopello at 5pm where at 6pm the barefoot pressing will begin inside the trough. At 6pm it's time for the "pigiata" with musical accompaniment. At 9.30pm, closing with a concert by the Precarious Classes. At the Riserva dello Zingaro, however, at 10am guided tour of the reception center with tasting comparison of two Scopello wines yesterday and today.

For all three days of the Harvest fest, wines, oil and typical products will be on display at the Market Dattolo and a 10% discount will be applied to Sicilian wines purchased.
