It is among the family vineyards that the Melia brothers developed the idea of producing fine red wines in an area with an ancient viticultural tradition: Alcamo.
With a pioneering spirit, the Melias believe in and invest in black grape varieties in an area that has always been suited to the production of white wines. At the beginning of the 90s, varieties such as Nero d'Avola, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot were introduced, focusing on the quality of the grapes. The vineyards are located in the north-western area of Sicily, a few kilometers from the renowned Temple of Segesta, in a land rich in beauty and charm. On these hilly lands the Melia brothers cultivate the 50 hectares of their own vineyards.
Particular attention is paid to native vines such as Nero d'Avola, Grillo, Grecanico and, recently, Moscato di Alessandria (Zibibbo).
In 1999 the Melia brothers took over an ancient farmhouse dating back to 1860, already a cellar at the time, which they renovated, bringing it back to its former glory and introducing the most modern and sophisticated cellar technologies inside. Three lines are currently produced: Ceuso, Fastaia and Scurati. The total production is approximately 130,000 bottles, the 70% is destined for foreign markets, such as the USA, Canada, Japan, Germany, England, Switzerland, Denmark, Russia, Singapore and recently the Philippines. The remaining 30% is distributed throughout the country.
